Use our plan and discover Tenerife in a weekend trip. An exhausting but unforgettable adventure.
We are not going to deceive you, it is difficult to see such a beautiful, complete and full of wonders place in a single weekend, what we are going to do is to build a small route so that you can see the most essential places of the island in a few days and want to come back in the future. The good road communications make it easy to get there with a maximum journey time of one and a half hours from one end of the island to the other. Let’s go for it, let’s see Tenerife in a weekend trip.
A few tips for visiting Tenerife on a weekend trip
- Rent a car. The best way to optimise time and waiting times is to hire a car. The connections and public transport, although efficient, will waste valuable time that you don’t have.
- Concrete planning. In such a short space of time you must be clear about the points of interest that you cannot miss. Before leaving home, organise a small travel diary with timetables, routes, journey times and relevant places to see.
- Optimise your time. Do you want to see the whole place? Get up a little earlier than usual and go to bed a little later than recommended. It’s only three days and we should give the maximum of ourselves. We’ll rest when we get back, you only live once.
- Prioritise destination over activities. Due to the limited time we have, we cannot do excessively long activities. If we want to see a lot, unfortunately we will have to do less. If only we had the power to stop time.
Friday, your arrival
It depends on the arrival time of your flight, but we can’t waste this first day. After leaving the airport with our rental car we will drive quickly to Vanilla Garden to check in. The efficient reception team will help you with any queries you may have. The best thing to do this afternoon is to take the opportunity to tour the south of the island.
You will arrive a little tired, so we encourage you to visit Los Cristianos, Las Américas and Los Gigantes. The first two are tourist and commercial areas, with beautiful beaches and leisure facilities. The third is a natural wonder of volcanic origin and not too far from the hotel where you are staying. A visit to the Cliffs of Los Gigantes is a must during your stay. It’s a pity we don’t have time to dive the seabed.
Saturday, the big day
This is the essential day of our trip, the only day we can enjoy the whole trip, with no flight or stay limitations. For this day we recommend a complete visit, lots of kilometres in the car and a desire for adventure. Teide, as we all know, is the main tourist attraction on our island and there are several ways to get there. We are going to base ourselves on these routes to see a large part of the surroundings.
The most comfortable route for our accommodation area is the one from Vilaflor, where we will see beautiful landscapes and many municipalities before reaching the slopes of Mount Teide. Once we reach our main objective, we will have to walk around the area of Las Cañadas, take beautiful photos and appreciate the spectacular volcanic landscape, which you can see snow-covered in winter. We will take advantage of the route to go down through the area of La Orotava, a historic municipality that is well worth a stop. Very close by is Puerto de La Cruz, the first tourist town in the Canary Islands and a marvel of the north of the island.
Once we have completed these municipalities it will be time to return to our hotel and on this occasion we will take advantage of the island’s motorways to reduce our time. And while we are on our way, it would be a pity not to stop, at least for a few hours in La Laguna, the historic university town, or Santa Cruz, the capital of the island. It will depend on the time we have, but if we optimise our visit it is possible to see them briefly.
Sunday, farewell tourism
At this stage of the trip, we have got to know a lot about our island. We will have to check out of the hotel and it is time to take advantage of the last moments before going to the airport. With the time we have we can visit the “low island”. Garachico, Buenavista or Teno are waiting for you to complete a perfect weekend trip in Tenerife.
